SUBMISSIONS
1. How do you define youth?
Our definition of “youth” is inclusive of all ages, and thus age is not necessarily a factor for submissions. TAYO Literary Magazine exists as a cultural mosaic for Filipino-American youth, an all-encompassing snapshot of what our young people think about their culture. As such, we are looking for literary and artistic work that capture and captivate the youth. We are interested in works that highlight what the youth are thinking or what the youth should think about. In other words, you do not have to be young to submit; rather, it is the content of your work that matters. Works chosen will ideally capture the spirit of the youth or explore what it means to be a Filipino in this post-modern world.
2. Do you have to be Filipino / Filipino American to submit?
No! There is a difference between exploring the “Filipino-American identity” and the “Filipino experience.” The term “identity” is more exclusive and is relative only to those who are Filipino/Filipino American. But because our experiences are more inclusive and more individual, we accept all submissions with content that ties-in with our magazine’s theme.
3. Do you accept submissions from youth in the Philippines?
Yes! We want to explore both the Filipino experience and the Filipino-American experience.

PUBLICATION
1. How often will your publication come out?
We are an annual publication.
2. Will there be an online magazine?
After our first inaugural issue, we are planning to make our magazine more accessible by becoming an annual print and online magazine. Our website is undergoing some major changes, but our content will become more interactive and dynamic as we will continually update our Online Features section throughout the year. We are also planning to have an Children Only – TAYO Literary Magazine online, specifically for children from ages 12 and below.
3. How do you decide which submissions get published?
All literary and artistic work will be reviewed under a blind submission policy; that is, none of the artist’s actual information (name, background, age) will be seen before his or her work is reviewed for publication. That way we can ensure that the publication process is carried out in a fair and non-discriminatory manner.
4. How much will the magazine cost?
To cover the costs of printing, the first issue of TAYO will be sold for $7.00. The price may change for future issues to ensure that TAYO is a sustainable publication.

2. When/Where/What is the TAYO Launch Party?
The TAYO Launch Party is a celebration of our culture, but also an event where we honor our community’s talented creative writers and visual artists. With the coming of our inaugural issue, we want to bring our Filipino-American community together for a night of good times, good art, and good food.
For our first annual launch party, it was on AUGUST 22ND, 2009, from 6PM – 9PM. The location was Salakot Sizzle and Grill (2122 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90057).
